Firefighter Robbed at Gunpoint While Checking Fire Hydrants

The Miami firefighter wasn't injured in the robbery, despite being shot at

Miami Police were searching for a suspect who robbed and shot at a firefighter, who had been doing a routine check of fire hydrants on Sunday.

The suspect came up behind the firefighter with a semi-automatic gun in the area of Northwest 15th Avenue and 47th Street.

While brandishing the weapon, he demanded the chain from the firefighter's neck. So, the firefighter took it off, threw it to the ground and started running. The suspect screamed for him to stop and then fired three shots, but missed, as he ran away from the firefighter.

"We checked him. He's shaken up but he's able to give the best description he can," said Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carroll of the firefighter.

The firefighter's name wasn't immediately released.

Authorities were searching for the suspect.
