A man who was paralyzed and left to die after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle to work in Fort Lauderdale in December has died from his injuries.
Craig Camlin died Saturday at Broward Health North Medical Center in Pompano Beach following a two-month fight, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Police said Camlin, 53, was riding his bike in the 5200 block of Northeast 18th Avenue the morning of Dec. 16 when he was struck by a car driven by Axel E. Inostroza.
Camlin was ejected onto the windshield of the black Ford Mustang, rolled over the roof and landed on the back window, but Inostroza didn't stop, police said.
Instead, Inostroza drove two miles north to his home in Pompano Beach, where he picked up Camlin and dumped him behind a garbage bin in the parking lot of his apartment complex, police said.
Lawn workers found Camlin and he was rushed to the hospital. He spent nearly two months on a ventilator and was barely able to whisper when he spoke with NBC 6 from his hospital bed earlier this month.
"Very mad," he whispered to his sister, Jayne, when talking about the circumstances around the crash. He also called Inostroza an "animal."
Inostroza faces several charges, including failure to stop at an accident involving injury and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, and has been released on $70,000 bond.
He could now face more charges related to Camlin's death, police said Monday.
