After he made national headlines Friday night by bombing at Alonzo Mourning's Summer Groove charity comedy event, comedian Dave Chappelle appeared at the Summer Grove gala Saturday night and poked a little fun at himself.
His ten-minute outing was "well received," reported a media member present, and consisted of a little self-effacing humor, praise for Mourning, and two funny stories about run-ins with headliner Alicia Keys.
Chappelle also apologized for his "bad attitute," introduced performer Cee-lo Green, and -- this time -- got off the stage on time.
CNN analyst Roland Martin, who live-tweeted Chappelle's already infamous meltdown the previous night at the Seminole Hard Rock, said the comedian was in good spirits backstage.
"He was [angry] at the folks who were videotaping his set [Friday night]," Martin wrote. "And he didn't appreciate the heckling from the fans in the front row."
Things fell apart for Chappelle Friday night shortly after his first joke, and continued downhill in a bizarre, roughly hour-long standoff with the audience that included Chappelle checking his text messages, refusing to tell jokes, and threatening to outlast the crowd.
"Things got so bad one woman yelled, 'Can you just tell a joke so we can enjoy ourselves?'" wrote Martin.
Chappelle, who famously walked away from his Comedy Central hit 'Chappelle's Show' a few years ago, has been making a slow return to standup by testing out new material in mostly unannounced club appearances.
