An alleged purse snatcher was killed and several others injured when his vehicle crashed during a chase with Hollywood Police on Monday, authorities said.
The female passenger in the suspect's car was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect's blue Impala crashed into a white van at the intersection of Taft Street and north Park Road. A police officer broke the window of that van to take out the driver.
A female officer also sustained minor injuries from the van glass window.
A total of four vehicles were involved in the crash.
"It sounded like a bomb going off, and as soon as I got outside, I saw the glass and the crashing and a little bit of screaming and at that time I was just really in a panic," said witness Lacey Wildd.
Another witness said car parts were flying in the air.
"I never seen that in my life. My heart just wanted to bounce right out of my chest. I have never seen anything like that," said Roxanne Mejia.
