CNBC's retail reporter Courtney Reagan thought she was doing a holiday shopping segment on Wednesday "Nightly Business Report" when a special guest showed up with a gift of his own.
The show's anchor Tyler Mathisen started the segment by talking about jewelry as the "man's best friend" during the holiday season, prompting Reagan to expound on the popularity of engagement rings this time of the year. Mathisen then segued into "middle level jewelers" like Jared, referring to the popular diamond retailer with stores in malls across the country. Or at least that's what Reagan thought.
Without missing a beat, Jared Baker, Reagan's hedge fund analyst boyfriend of seven years, appeared on set and surprised her with some heartfelt words.
"I love you so much. I have since the day I met you," he said.
With the cameras rolling and the tears flowing, Baker got on bended knee, presented an engagement ring to Reagan and asked for her hand in marriage. She said yes.
