More than a dozen aerialists, dancers and musicians will perform entire routines while airborne as part of '8cho,' an Argentine Tango show coming to the Adrienne Arsht Center this summer.
The show, which has been performed in more than 100 cities around the world, incorporates various rhythms of Argentina’s tango.
“It is tango dance but in a way that audiences have never seen before,” said Scott Shiller, executive vice president of the Adrienne Arsht Center.
While suspended on ropes high above the stage, performers leap, swivel and fly through the air, creating hip-hop and tango-infused movements.
“We have a huge company of aerialist and dancers who are actually spinning over the stage, on the stage, above the stage, on the walls,” Shiller said.
In addition to the dancers, the show will feature a live, six-piece orchestra and vocalist.
The show was created by Argentine choreographer, Brenda Angiel, and it is performed by the Brenda Angiel Aerial Dance Company.
“It’s based on the eight-step in tango, so this show is really infused with tango just as Miami everyday life here is infused with tango,” Shiller said.
