After celebrating a slew of spring birthdays, you're probably not in the mood for more cake and pleasant birthday banter. Which is why you'll want to make time for unique and (in)famous celebration of the birth of Jimbo.
This Sunday the local celeb turns 82. He is best known for his place of residence, a series of shacks located off the beaten path on Virginia Key. That, and his pleasant demeanor.
His website boasts, "Jimbo's Place is a physical location, but more than that, it's a state of mind - Jimbo's mind." And that state of mind is relaxed, free and fun.
Jimbo's birthday party is an annual celebration that brings the bikers, tourists and locals alike across the Rickenbacker Causeway for some smoked fish, dirt-cheap beer, bocci ball and entertainment by Swampfoot, the band in residence.
You may catch a rumble or run into a few friends. You'll definitely see Jimbo there, with a cigar in hand, smiling for a picture. But most of all, you'll witness a few things that'll make your jaw drop. Imagine the largest backyard barbeque possible, with the most eclectic group of guests.
This colorful location has been used in numerous television shoots for such shows as CSI: Miami and Burn Notice. JLo and Ziggy Marley have shot videos here as well, so don't forget to bring your camera -- or the sunscreen.
