Adam Gersten, Miami Beach native, swashbuckler, lawyer, DJ, promoter, pirate and sometimes Svengali, is back from his current home in Key West for the weekend to again shape the Miami music scene. Having once thrown popular nights, like FM at PS14 and what is now the Electric Pickle, and Jukebox of Death at Churchill’s, he’s always been involved in projects that offered an alternative to the alternative mainstream. With the help of old friends and a “why not?” attitude, Gersten is again creating nights to remember while remaining true to his own musical sensibilities.
Needless Records, Gersten’s newest endeavor, is a budding label which released two, sold-out, 7-inch records with Woven Bones and the Jacuzzi Boys. Andy Burr, Gersten’s partner on the label, is also a killer graphic designer and heads up Woven Bones. The label is a labor of love for both Burr and Gersten, who met (many years) back in Gainesville at University of Florida. Committed to their tastes, they felt it was the perfect time to start up a new label to release the music they enjoy and that their friends are working their buns off to make.
Former Hiss band member and college companion of Gersten Adrian Barrera leads the Barreracudas who have come down from Atlanta to join former tourmates, the Jacuzzi Boys, to make for a crazy night at PS14. Their sound is a little glam, a little punk, but best of all, they have a full song about dog and cat food; the lyrics will make your tummy grumble! Other bands that have joined the line up are Little Beard and Teepee. The DJ selection is topnotch and definitely will offer a diversity of sounds with Oly, Benton and Bert Rodriguez and Gersten with his brother Mike as the Flying Gerstini Bros. It’s this Saturday night at PS14 starting around 10 p.m., entrance is only $5 and well worth the investment.
